Effingham St. Anthony and Sigel St. Michael split girls junior high school basketball victories Wednesday.
St. Michael captured the seventh-grade game 27-19. St. Anthony took a 12-2 opening quarter lead but didn't tally a point in the second quarter as the Bullpups came back to pull within 12-11 at halftime. But St. Michael outscored St. Anthony 15-8 in the second half.
St. Michael had two players in double digits, Schumacher and J. Bueker with 10 each. St. Anthony was led by Mary Ann Saba with 10.
In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony held a 9-3 lead after a quarter but St. Michael fought back to tie the score at halftime. St. Anthony then had an 8-2 third quarter run to pull out the 22-19 victory.
Jenna Woltman tallied nine for the winners.
