Effingham County Lightning Wins State Championship, Welcome Home Video

The Effingham County Lightning Special Olympics basketball team are the Division II State Champions after two wins Sunday against the Rockford Red Hot Shooters and the Jacksonville Golden Saints. Scores from the games were not immediately available.

A welcome home for the team was held Sunday evening, beginning at Dieterich Bank's headquarters on North Third Street. The parade wound through town, eventually ending at St. Anthony High School.

After the parade, Coach Susan Zakutansky said of their first state title win, "it's for my team, they're the ones that did all the hard work, the practicing, they did it."
