The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are in the Elite Eight of boys Class 2A basketball.

The Shoes defeated the Lawrenceville Indians 58-54 Friday night in the championship game of the Flora 2A Sectional. The game at a stifling hot Conley Gym was heard on KJ Country 102.3. We've uploaded an audio an audio replay of the game below.

Teutopolis, now 26-6, will take on Breese Central Cougars Tuesday night at 7:30pm at SIU Arena in Carbondale. We'll have the game on KJ Country 102.3.

The Shoes broke out of the gate in style, leading 13-2, but Lawrenceville got the ship righted and closed to within 17-12 by the end of the first quarter. A 13-9 Indian advantage in the second quarter brought Lawrenceville to within 26-25 at halftime. The Indians took their first lead of the game in the third quarter before Teutopolis pulled back ahead 41-39 at the end of the period. Lawrenceville seemed to have the momentum after regaining the lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Shoes hitched up their collective belts and outscored the Indians 17-15 in the final quarter to post the four-point win.

Teutopolis got huge minutes from their bench after Michael Drees and then Brett Mette were saddled with foul problems. Brant Bueker came in to score 11 points while Belleville did nice work inside in relief of Mette. Chris Ungrund was also huge off the bench.

Drees took over the game offensively in the fourth quarter before fouling out with :49 left in the game. He shared scoring honors with Kyle Smith and Bueker, each scoring 11 points. Mette and Devin Smith each scored seven points, Mitch Hardiek and Belleville each scored five points, and Ungrund scored the other point.

Harry Loeb led Lawrenceville with 19 points, while Dylan Volkman scored 14 points, Brandt Cochran 9, Dalton Sholders 6, Jordan Shick 5, and Bryce Winningham 1.

Teutopolis shot 44% from the field, making 21 of 48 shots including three of 12 threes. The Shoes made 13 of 18 foul shots, turned the ball over 13 times and grabbed 28 rebounds.

Lawrenceville hit 45% of its shots, 18 of 40, but made just two of 15 threes and only made 16 of 26 foul shots. The Indians committed 16 turnovers and pulled down 26 rebounds.

Lawrenceville sees its great season end at 28-3.
