Wooden Shoes Post Big Win Over Shelbyville

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes got their post-season off to a roaring good start, pounding the Shelbyville Rams 88-41 in first round action at the Teutopolis Class 2A Regional Tuesday night.

The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

Teutopolis held a double-digit lead before Shelbyville first scored and led 24-4 after the first quarter. The Shoes scored another 24 points in the second period and led 48-15 at halftime and then outscored the Rams 40-26 in the second half to win by 47 points. At one point, the lead was 50 points over a team that is young, but won 13 games this season.

The Shoes shot 52% from the field, making 33 of 64 shots including seven of 17 threes. T-Town was also 14 of 17 at the foul line, committed just nine turnovers, one in the second half, and grabbed 32 rebounds.

Shelbyville made 16 of 39 shots for 41% including three of 12 threes. The Rams made six of eight free throws, but committed 23 turnovers and pulled down just 15 rebounds.

Kyle Smith led a balanced Teutopolis attack with 21 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Brett Mette scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Michael Drees also scored 16 points on seven of eight shooting but went down in a heap while going up for a layup early in the second half. After the game, Drees said his upper leg felt tight, but he was walking under his own power. Brant Bueker came off the bench to score 11 for the Shoes. Also for Teutopolis: Mitch Hardiek 8, Devin Smith 5, Brock Bueker 5, Lee Hardiek 2, Blake Mette 2, and Chris Ungrund 2.

Malcolm Miller led Shelbyville with 13 points. The Rams ended their season with a 13-15 record.

Teutopolis improved to 23-6 and will play for the regional championship Friday night at 7:00 against the winner of Wednesday night's Marshall/Pana game.
