Dieterich, N.R., SSW Nab Girls Regional Wins

DIETERICH -- Dieterich and Oblong were opening round winners in the Class 1A Dieterich Girls Basketball Regional Monday evening.
Dieterich claimed a 59-39 win over Martinsville. The Movin' Maroons held a 27-23 halftime lead then had a 22-12 third quarter run.
Kallee Heuerman tallied 17 points for the Maroons while Madison Bannick chipped in with 13. Heuerman and Cassie Vahling led in rebounds with four each. Anna Shadle and Kelsey Webb had four assists each. Shadle led in steals with four while Bannick had three.
In the second contest, Oblong was a 65-25 winner over Palestine/Hutsonville.
Dieterich moves into tonight's game against top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m. Oblong will now take on Red Hill (Bridgeport) tonight at 7:30.

Class 1A South Central Regional
North Clay (Louisville) handed South Central a 43-36 loss in opening round play of the South Central Regional.
The Cardinals edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead but South Central came back to tie the score at halftime 14-14. North Clay then had a 14-9 third quarter run and outscored the Cougars 15-13 in the final period.
Taylor Jones led the winners with 12 points while Audrey Fleener chipped in with nine.
South Central was led by Abby Hahn and Keely Smith with 14 points each.
"We had our chances to win this one tonight," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "We had worked on our drives and making passes to the block, preparing for this game. It worked tonight but we just didn't finsh by making those shots. That was the difference in the game.
"The girls worked hard all year and we lost some close games. With committed individual off-season work, we hope to come back ready to go hard next year."
The Cougars finish 8-18 overall.
North Clay advances to face Altamont Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo taking on Ramsey at 7:30.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor and Nokomis were opening round winners at the Neoga Regional.
Stew-Stras/Windsor picked up a 58-26 win over Pawnee in the opening game. No other statistics were available.
In the second game, Nokomis ended Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's season with a 61-27 win.
Nokomis led 33-12 at halftime and never looked back. CHBC was led by Skylar Morrison with 12 points.
Stew-Stras/Windsor takes on Moweaqua Central A&M tonight at 6 followed by Nokomis facing Neoga at 7:30.

Casey-Westfield opened this regional with a 62-38 win over Shelbyville.
In the second contest, Pana handed Cumberland a 56-27 loss. Pana took a 29-2 opening quarter lead and that was it for the game.
Cumberland was led by M. Sowers with 10 points.
Pana advances with a 15-13 record to face Vandalia tonight at 7:30. Casey-Westfield will face top-seeded Teutopolis at 6 tonight.
