Bulldogs Win F/S Tourney, EHS in Consy Championship

NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Neoga Boys Freshman/Sophomore Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

The Bulldogs handed Teutopolis a 63-56 loss to claim the title. The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and led 31-23 at halftime. St. Anthony mounted a furious rally in the third quarter with a 24-15 run to pull ahead 47-46.

In the final quarter, the Bulldogs connected on six of seven from the free throw line and hit five field goals for the victory.

Three players scored in double figures for St. Anthony. Alex Deters and Jack Nuxoll tallied 14 points each while Adam Levitt had 11.

T-town also had three players in double digits. Funneman tallied 19, Kremer 16 and Goeckner 11.

Hillsboro Freshman Tournament

Effingham advanced to the consolation championship with a 57-29 win over Auburn Monday evening in this tournament.

The Hearts leaped out to a 24-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back in the win. Cooper Jackson tallied eight points in the opening quarter run while Zack Lee added six.

Hunter Rich finished with 12 for the Hearts while Lee had 10 and Jackson had all eight of his points in that opening quarter. All 10 players scored for EHS.

EHS now advances to the consy title game Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against either Vandalia or Greenville.
