Teutopolis to Play for 7-3A State Championship, Sigel St. Michael Reaches Third Place Game, St. Anthony Loses in Quarterfinals at State Tournaments

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are in the championship game, Sigel St. Michael will play for third place, but St. Anthony lost in seventh grade state tournament action Saturday.
Teutopolis won in quarterfinal action 38-19 over South Holland McKinley, and then defeated Eureka 41-30 in semifinal action to reach the championship game. Teutopolis is now 24-2 on the season.
Teutopolis actually trailed 9-4 after one quarter in their 7-3A semifinal game, but then outscored Eureka 16-6 in the second quarter to lead 20-15 at halftime. It was 30-23 after three quarters before the Shoes outscored Eureka 10-6 in the final stanza to post an 11-point win.
Matthew Deters led Teutopolis with 15 points, while Jordan Hardiek and Evan Addis each scored 10 points. Also for Teutopolis: Derek Deters 4, and Hayden Ruholl 2.
The Wooden Shoes doubled the score on their opponent in their 7-3A quarterfinal game at Wenona Fieldcrest Middle School.
It was 8-6 T-Town after one quarter, 13-11 at halftime, and 26-15 after three quarters before they outscored South Holland McKinley 12-4 in the final quarter.
Matthew Deters was high point man for Teutopolis with 18 points. Also for the Shoes: Evan Wermert 8, Jordan Hardiek 5, Evan Addis 4, and Hayden Ruholl 3.
Teutopolis will take on Mossville, undefeated at 26-0, on Thursday night at 7:30pm for the 7-3A state championship.

Class 7-1A State Tournament
Sigel St. Michael defeated Hardin Calhoun 46-31 in the 7-1A tournament at East Peoria Central Junior High School. The win pushed the Sharpshooters, at 22-3, into semifinal action Saturday night against Normal Epiphany where Epiphany posted a 49-39 win over St. Michael.
St. Michael trailed 11-8 after the first quarter, but outscored Hardin Calhoun 16-6 in the second quarter to lead 24-17 at halftime. An 8-8 third quarter left St. Michael in front 32-25 going to the final period, and the Sharpshooters there outscored Hardin Calhoun 14-6 to claim the 15-point win.
Alex Cornell led St. Michael with 14 points including four three-pointers. Also for St. Michael: Justin Ruholl 9, Isaac Walk 8, Seth Hotze 4, Adam Fearday 3, Max Niebrugge 3, Craig Croy 2, Colton Fearday 2, and Dylan Will 1.
In the semifinal game, St. Michael trailed 14-9 after one quarter, 25-17 at halftime, and 35-28 after three quarters before Epiphany outscored the Sharpshooters 14-11 in the fourth quarter to post the 10-point victory.
Craig Croy led St. Michael with 15 points. Also for the Sharpshooters: Justin Ruholl 9, Max Niebrugge 8, Alex Cornell 5, and Isaac Walk 2.
Sigel St. Michael is now 22-3 on the season, and will play at 6pm Thursday against Pontiac St. Mary's for third place.

Class 7-2A State Tournament
In their 7-2A quarterfinal game at Clinton High School, St. Anthony trailed Hazel Crest Jesse White 16-10 after one quarter and 29-17 at halftime. It was 45-27 after three quarters before St. Anthony outscored Hazel Crest 12-10 in the final quarter to account for the 16-point margin at game's end.
Kenaan Walsh led St. Anthony with 17 points, while Eli Moore added 10. Also for the Bullpups: Wade Lawrence 4, Austin Faber 2, James Schuette 2, Ty Wiedman 2, and Grant Nuxoll 2.
The Bullpups close out their season with a 17-6 record.
