Bulldogs Make Senior Night Count

The St. Anthony Bulldogs made Senior Night count, posting an 88-29 win over the Sandoval Blackhawks in girls basketball action. 

The game Monday night at the Enlow Center was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

St. Anthony's defense caused 19 Sandoval first half turnovers, resulting in a 45-12 Bulldogs halftime lead. It was 15-4 after one quarter and 71-18 after three periods before St. Anthony outscored Sandoval 17-11 in the final period.

St. Anthony shot 51% from the field, making a whopping 36 of 70 shots including five of 12 threes. The Bulldogs made half of their foul shots, 11 of 22, and turned the ball over just six times while grabbing 35 rebounds.

Sandoval made 12 of 34 shots for 35% including two of 10 threes, made three of eight foul shots, committed 30 turnovers and pulled down just 15 rebounds.

The margin of victory enabled Bulldogs Coach Bart Wiedman to play everyone on the roster for extended minutes. Emma Richards led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds while Hunter Niebrugge scored 10 points with six boards. Also for St. Anthony: Maddie Schuette 9, Kyla Burton 9, Emily McDevitt 8, Abby Brown 7, Abbie Schmidt 7, Olivia Clausius 7, Abby Weis 6, Meg Richards 6, Claire McHugh 2, and Kaylee Horn 2.

Halei Orrell led Sandoval with 11 points.

The Bulldogs improved to 17-11 and can win the National Trail Conference championship outright with a win Thursday against Brownstown/St. Elmo to close out the regular season. St. Anthony begins play next week in the Dieterich 1A Regional.

St. Anthony saluted senior players Emily McDevitt, Emma Richards, Abby Brown, Hunter Niebrugge, Kyla Burton and Maddie Schuette as well as Manager/Statistician Samantha Brandenburger.

St. Anthony won the JV game 51-17.
