 Effingham opened the Class 8-4A Mattoon Boys Basketball Regional with a victory Saturday.

The Mustangs defeated Tolono Unity 45-29. Effingham held a 27-9 halftime lead.

Siner led the way in scoring with 12 points while Niebrugge chipped in with eight. Pemberton and Thompson had six rebounds each while Cramsey chipped in with five. Kalber led the team in steals with four.

Effingham improves to 8-13 on the season and will now square off against top-seeded Charleston at 6 p.m. today.

In the second game Saturday, Mattoon edged Champaign Edsion 34-29. Mattoon now faces Urbana at 7:15 p.m. today.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Dieterich and Hutsonville advanced from Saturday competition.

Dieterich edged Palestine 27-24 in the opening contest. In the second game, Hutsonville downed Martinsville 37-26.

Dieterich will now face Newton St. Thomas at 6 p.m. today while Hutsonville takes on Sigel St. Michal at 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced in its own regional with a 50-40 win over Ramsey.

In the second contest, Okaw Valley downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 64-24.

St. Elmo/Brownstown will now face Nokomis at 6:15 p.m. today while Altamont takes on Okaw Valley at 7:30.

 

Class 8-2A Neoga Regional

Host Neoga and Paris Crestwood were opening round winners in this regional.

Neoga pounded Oblong 43-16 while Paris Crestwood won easily over Kansas 48-17.

Paris Crestwood now meets top-seeded Arcola at 6 p.m. Tuesday while Neoga takes on second-seeded Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Pana Regional

Pana handed Shelbyville Moulton a 34-27 loss in the opening game of its own regional.

Assumption Central A&M downed Sullivan 46-10. In the third contest, Arthur won over Blue Mound Meridian 32-17.

Pana advances to face top-seeded Teutopolis at 6 p.m. today followed by Assumption Central A&M against Athur at 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Marshall Regional

Red Hill (Bridgeport) defeated Jasper County 48-39 in the opening game of the Marshall Regional.

The second contest went to Robinson Nuttall over Cumberland 40-8.

Red Hill will now meet Marshall at 6 p.m. today followed by Robinson Nuttall against Lawrenceville Parkview at 7:15.

 

At Altamont Lutheran

Odin and Altamont Lutheran advanced to the championship game of the SIJHSAA Regional Boys Basketball Tournament with victories Friday.

Odin defeated St. Peter Lutheran 72-25. Altamont Lutheran claimed a 46-44 win over Patoka.

Odin and Altamont Lutheran meet at 6 p.m. today for the regional title.

 

At Clay City

North Clay (Louisville) captured the championshp of the Clay City Sixth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Satuday.

North Clay defeated West Salem 30-4 in the opener then came back with a 36-28 win over Newton St. Thomas.

In the title contest, North Clay beat St. Joseph 35-14.
