Shoes Pick Up Two Wins Over Weekend, Pirates Second at LOVC Tourney

Teutopolis High School picked up two boys basketball victories over the weekend.

In Friday evening action, T-town trounced Breese Mater Dei 71-49.

The Wooden Shoes' Brett Mette scored 13 of the 15 total points as the Shoes took a 15-10 opening quarter. T-town held a 29-21 halftime lead then put the game on ice with a 42-28 second half. Devin Smith scored nine points in the third quarter run.

Mette finished with 24 points while Smith chipped in with 17.

In Saturday play, the Wooden Shoes edged Taylorville 52-50. The Shoes stepped out to a 17-5 first quarter lead but Taylorville got untracked with an 18-9 second period run to pull within 26-23 at halftime. T-town then had a 14-8 third period to lead 50-41 going into the final quarter.

The Tornadoes made a comeback bid with a 19-12 final period but fell short. The Tornadoes knocked down eight three-pointers in the game.

T-town was led by Brett Mette with 18 points while Kyle Smith added 14.

The Shoes are now 19-5 on the season.

At Arthur

Cumberland finished second in the LOVC Tournament with a 66-52 loss to Arcola in the championship game Saturday.

The Purple Riders held a 32-15 halftime lead and led 51-30 going into the final quarter. The Pirates mounted a furious comeback bid with a 22-15 run but fell short.

Magee tallied 13 for the Pirates while Beard added 12.
