Bulldogs Beat Cougars, Shoes Pick Up Win, Area Girls Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School continues to roll through the National Trail Girls Basketball Conference by downing South Central 62-33 Monday evening.
The Bulldogs leaped out to a 25-9 opening quarter lead and all that needed to be decided was the final score the rest of the way.
Emily McDevitt knocked in a three-pointer, had two regular baskets and two free throws and scored all nine of her points in the opening quarter.
Two other players hit nine points each for the Bulldogs, Abby Brown and Madison Schuette. Abby Weis and Emma Richards had eight points each in pretty even scoring for St. Anthony. Weis had seven assists. Schuette and Brown had three steals each. Olivia Clausius had five rebounds.
"It was a goodteam win," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "Our full court pressure caused a lot of havoc in the first half."
St. Anthony pushed its NTC record to 6-0 and stands at 16-10 overall.
South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 20 points. The Cougars drop to 1-5 in the conference, 8-14 overall.
St. Anthony won the junior varsity game 46-21.

Teutopolis pounded Mattoon 68-41 in action Monday evening.
The Wooden Shoes took a 17-4 opening quarter lead and led 43-17 at halftime. T-town held the Green Wave to 14 field goals in the contest while banging home 28.
Four players scored in double figures for the Shoes. Molly Smith tallied 20 while Janie Sandschafer scored 16, Anna Hartke 10 and Raegan Drees 10. Hartke pulled down nine rebounds while Smith had six. Thompson had two steals.

The Indians held a 43-20 halftime lead. E.C. Thies tallied 30 points for the winners while Banning added 12. Neoga improves to 19-7 on the season.
Endsley led CHBC with seven points.

North Clay (Louisville) came to Dieterich and picked up a 48-30 non-conference win Monday evening.
The Cardinals edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead and led 24-16 at halftime. Brilee Kessler tallied 14 points for the winners while Darcy Fender and Taylor Jones had nine each.
Dieterich was led by Kallee Heuerman with 14 points and 13 rebounds. She also had two assists. Kelsey Webb had eight points, two assist and two steals. Madison Bannick led in steals with five. Cassie Vahling added two assists.
Dieterich falls to 7-17 on the season.

Carly McHugh tallied 13 points for the winners and nailed three trifectas. Leah Mayhaus and Shelbi Stone chipped in with seven points.
