Taylorville came calling and handed Effingham two losses in freshman/sophomore boys basketball competition Monday evening.
The Tornadoes won the freshman contest 59-48. Taylorville held a 35-22 halftime lead but Effingham dug into that lead and brought it down to 45-40 going into the final quarter. Taylorville then connected on 10 free throws in the final period to claim the win.
Ryan Sandifer led the Hearts with 25 points.
In the sophomore contest, Taylorville claimed a 54-47 victory. The Tornadoes led 23-17 at halftime and had a 20-10 third quarter scoring surge.
Effingham was led by Lucas Hagler with 17 and Dylan Bushur with 13. Cooper Jackson added nine.
