Effingham St. Anthony played host to a Class 7-2A Boys Basketball Regional Saturday.

In the opening contest, Neoga downed Palestine 26-22 while the second game went to Paris Crestwood over Kansas 49-5.

The two teams were tied at 8-8 after the opening quarter. Oblong then pushed ahead 26-14 halftime. Neoga came back with a 12-4 second half run to pull out the victory.

Neoga was led by Vaughn with 14 and McClure with 12.

Neoga advances to face Arcola at 6 p.m. today while Paris Crestwood takes on Effingham St. Anthony at 7:15.

Class 7-2A St. Anthony Regional

Class 7-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham picked up an opening round victory in its own Class 7-4A regional Saturday.

The Mustangs led 29-11 at halftime then had a 27-24 second half for a 56-35 victory over Tolono Unity.

Duncan taliled 16 and Wolfe 12 for the winners who improve to 13-4 on the season.

In the second game, Champaign Edison downed Mattoon 58-22.

The tournament continues tonight with Effingham facing top-seeded Urbana at 6 followed by Charleston against Champaign Edison at 7:30.

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Hutsonville and Martinsville were opening round winners at the St. Michael Regional.

Hutsonville edged Newton St. Thomas 23-22 in the first game. The second game went to Martinsville over Palestine 38-27.

Hutsonville advances to face host St. Michael at 6 p.m. today while Dieterich takes on Martinsville at 7:15.

 

Class 7-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Red Hill (Bridgeport) defeated Robinson Nuttall 45-29 in competition Saturday at the Robinson Nuttall Regional.

In the second game, Cumberland edged Jasper County 29-26. The final game went to Casey-Westfield over Lawrenceville Parkview 37-27.

Red Hill advances to face Marshall at 6 p.m. today while Cumberland takes on Casey-Westfield at 7:15.

 

Class 7-3A Shelbyville Moulton Regional

Pana edged Assumption Central A&M 33-31 to advance to face Teutopolis Tuesday at the Shelbyville Moulton Regional. The two teams will square off at 6 p.m.

In the second game Saturday, Shelbyville Moulton trounced Sullivan 53-19. Arthur won over Blue Mound Meridian, 43-34.

Shelbyville Moulton and Arthur will face each other at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Class 7-1A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

This regional opens play tonight with host Stew-Stras facing Mulberry Grove at 4:30 followed by Pana Sacred Heart against Windsor at 6.

 

Class 7-2A Nokomis Regional

This regional opens play tonight. Findlay Okaw Valley faces Ramsey at 6 followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:15 p.m.

 

James Burke Memorial Tournament

Effingham St. Anthony played for the championship against host Greenville but dropped a 60-39 decision in the 68th Annual James Burke Memorial Tournament Saturday.

Greenville took an 11-4 opening quarter lead and led 29-19 at halftime. The Bullpups could never get untracked in this game.

Hoene and Webb tallied 12 points each for the Bullpups while Dust added 11.

Effingham fell to Triad 50-39 in the third place game.

The Mustangs led 27-20 at halftime then had a rough second half as Triad outscored the Mustangs 30-12.

Utz led the Mustangs with 10 points. Pemberton had 10 rebounds and Cramsey five.

At Cisne

In the Cisne Seventh-Grade Tournament, North Clay (Louisville) captured second place.

North Clay defeated New Hope 59-48. Ethan Bible tallied 38 in the contest.

In the second game, North Clay had to go overtime before downing Fairfield 42-35. North Clay trailed 17-15 at halftime and 23-19 giong into the final quarter but came back with a 14-10 run to send the game into overtime. Bible then tallied five points while Kaleb Anthony had four in the overtime session for the win.

Bible finished with 20 points and Anthony had eight.

In the championship game, Wayne City was a 43-13 winner. Wayne City held a 20-11 halftime lead then held North Clay to no field goals in the second half and only two points on free throws.

Layton Dawkins and Anthony had four points each.
