(UPDATED) Bulldogs Post Big Fourth Quarter to Claim Win over WSS; Other Friday Scores

The St. Anthony Bulldogs, outscored 16-5 in the third quarter, came back to outscore Windsor/Stew-Stras 19-6 in the fourth quarter and post a 51-41 win over the Hatchets in Friday night basketball action at Windsor.

The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.  

St. Anthony broke out to a 17-13 lead after one period, and pushed the advantage to 27-19 at halftime. Then came WSS' big third quarter to move ahead 35-32 before the Bulldogs posted their big fourth period.

St. Anthony won despite making just 15 of 46 shots, a hair under 33% from the field including five of 18 threes. Windsor/Stew-Stras made 15 of 37 shots for 41% including two of nine on threes.

The effort from the foul line for both teams was weak, as St. Anthony made 14 of 25 for 56% and WSS made only 9 of 21 for 43%. St. Anthony posted a 28-22 rebound edge, but St. Anthony turned the ball over just seven times and only two in the second half...none in the fourth quarter. WSS committed 16 turnovers.

Nick Grunloh and Drew Gibson each scored 14 points to lead St. Anthony. Also for the Bulldogs: Chandler Martelli 8, Kyle Hartke 6, Cade Walsh 5, James Kabbes 2 and Jay Niebrugge 2.

Chandler Ballinger and Mitchell Haddock each scored 10 points to pace WSS. Also for the Hatchets: Nic Hutchinson 8, Tristan Warner 6, Isaac Kramer 3, Joshua Overbeck 2 and Teddy Kessler 2.

St. Anthony is now 12-8, while Windsor/Stew-Stras is 9-8 as both teams now get ready for the 81st National Trail Conference Tournament, which opens on Tuesday in Altamont.

St. Anthony won the JV game 51-31. Cade Walsh and Alex Deters each scored 10 points for the JV Bulldogs, while Chase Thies scored nine points to lead WSS.

There was also a frosh/soph game played Friday night, won by St. Anthony 33-16.
