Waltonville, Cisne Nab MTC Tourney Wins

Waltonville and Odin nabbed victories in Midland Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament action Wednesday evening.

Waltonville won over Odin, 62-37. Waltonville led 32-23 at halftime then had a 30-14 second half run. Dylan Miller had 20 and Ryan Majewski 14 for the winners.Odin was led by Hofstetter with 10.

Cisne then edged Sandoval 78-70. The Blackhawks held an 18-15 opening quarter lead but held only a 32-31 first half lead. Cisne came back with a 27-26 third quarter edge to tie the score at 58-58 going into the final period.

Cisne then connected on 12 free throws in the final quarter to pull out the victory.

Cisne will now face Waltonville at 6:30 p.m. Friday for the consolation championship. Tonight's games feature North Clay (Louisville) against Clay City at 5 p.m. for ninth place, Woodlawn taking on Wayne City at 6:30 and Grayville facing Webber Township (Bluford) at 8 in winner bracket play.

 

Salem Invitational

The Salem Invitational got underway Wednesday evening with two games.

Centralia downed Salem 58-35 while Mount Vernon was a 57-42 winner over Mattoon.

Effingham will open play tonight against Thornton Fractional North at 6:30 p.m. followed by Edwardsville against Andrews Osborne at 8 p.m.

If the Hearts win, they will play at 8 p.m. Friday evening. If they lose, they will play at 1 p.m. Saturday.
