Shoes Drop Loss at Nashville Tourney, Area Boys Roundup

NASHVILLE -- Teutopolis High School suffered its second loss at the Nashville Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes fell to Breese Mater Dei 47-44. T-town held a 13-9 opening quarter lead behind the scoring of Brett Mette. Mette knocked in four regular baskets and a three-pointer for 11 points.

Mette continued with eight points in the second period and the Shoes held a 25-23 halftime lead.

But Mater Dei came back in the third quarter with a slight 13-11 run to tie the score at 36-36 going into the final period. That's when Breese Mater Dei took the momentum for an 11-8 run to pull out the three-point win.

Pollman led Mater Dei with 16 points.

T-town was led by Mette with 24 points. The Shoes drop to 0-2 in the tournament while that was Mater Dei's opener. Nashville is 2-0, Breese Central 1-0 and Mascoutah 0-2.

Midland Trail Conference Tournament

Four games were contested Tuesday evening at the Midland Trail Conference Tournament.

Woodlawn claimed the opener 69-38 while Wayne City downed Waltonville 69-45. Grayville edged Cisne 83-81 while Webber Township (Bluford) beat Sandoval 68-58.

Tonight's games, in consolation bracket play, feature oOdin against Waltonville at 6 followed by Cisne taking on Sandoval at 7:30.

 

At Beecher City

Altamont came calling at Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick and picked up a 74-54 National Trail Conference victory.

The Indians trailed BCCH 18-11 after the opening quarter but put together a hot-scoring 24-4 run to lead 35-22 at halftime. That momentum continued into the third quarter with a 24-16 run.

Ryan Armstrong led the way for Altamont with 19 points while Hosick tallied 17. Armstrong went over the 1,000 point career mark and is the first junior in Altamont basketball history to reach 1,000 points as a junior.

BCCH was led by Rexroad with 14 and Harder with nine.

Altamont beat Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick in the junior varsity contest, 64-57.

At Oblong

Dieterich had to go overtime before pulling out a 54-52 non-conference win over Oblong.

Both teams scored eight points in the opening quarter before the Movin' Maroons took an 18-15 lead at halftime. Oblong came back in the third quarter to lead 28-26 going into the final period. Dieterich then had a 19-17 run to knot the score.

In the overtime period, Dieterich had a 9-7 tally to pull out the victory. Travis Niemerg led the Maroons with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Feldhake added 14 points and Radloff 12.

Three-pointers rained down as there were 15 total for the contest, nine by Dieterich and eight by Oblong. Radloff and N. Feldhake had three each.

Newton played host to Flora and suffered a 58-50 defeat Tuesday evening.

Flora stepped out to a 20-12 opening quarter lead but Newton fought back to pull within 28-26 at halftime. The Wolves had a 10-9 edge and then took control with a 20-15 final quarter.

Gaither tallied 16, Gocey 12 and Moses 11 for the winners.

Newton was led by Mammoser with 16 and Harris with nine. The Eagles drop to 6-11 on the season.

South Central edged Neoga 48-45 in a National Trail Conference contest.

The Cougars had a 19-13 opening quarter and led 27-19 at halftime. Neoga came back with a 12-5 third quarter run to pull within 32-31 going into the final period. South Central then recaptured the momentum with a 16-14 edge.

Harmeier tallied 16 and Hill 15 for the winners. Neoga was led by Freeman with 14.
