Newton Falls In LIC Girls Tourney, Four Games at Highland

OLNEY -- Marshall claimed a 49-40 win over Newton in the winner bracket of the Little Illini Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.
The two teams were tied at 12-12 after the opening quarter. Newton edged ahead 19-18 at halftime. Marshall came back with a 13-8 third quarter run and finished out with an 18-13 final period.
Burdick led Marshall wtih 19 while Williams added 15.
Newton was led by Richards with 19 and Hartrich with 10. The Eagles (14-8) will now play for third place against Olney Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Marshall will face Flora at 8 p.m. for the championship. Flora handed Olney a 48-33 defeat Tuesday.
In tonight's games, Lawrenceville takes on Casey-Westfield at 6 while Paris meets Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 7:30 in consolation bracket play.

Highland Tournament
Four games were contested Tuesday evening in the Highland Tournament.
Taylorville beat Nokomis 51-33, Nashville won over Wesclin 35-31, Belleville West was a 47-41 winner over Highland and Salem downed Hillsboro 58-48.
Tonight's games feature Teutopolis against Breese Mater Dei at 5, Taylorville taking on Nashville at 6:30 and Belleville West against Salem at 8.
