ST. ELMO -- The Eighth-Grade National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament opened play Friday and Saturday at St. Elmo.
The lone score that was turned in was from Saturday's second game. St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Stewardson-Strasburg 38-29.
SEB stepped out to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back. SEB was led by Goldsborough with 15 points.
Stew-Stras was led by Jesgarz with 15 and Kirby with 13. The squad drops to 7-11 on the season.
Other games had Sigel St. Michael against Effingham Sacred Heart, Altamont facing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Neoga taking on Dieterich. The tournament continues tonight.

At Casey
Effingham claimed a 44-26 seventh-grade victory over Casey-Westfield Saturday.
Effingham held a 25-14 halftime lead and had a 19-12 second half. Duncan and Wolfe tallied 15 points each for the Mustangs.
Effingham is now 12-4 on the season with the next game Saturday in the Effingham Regional.

At Mattoon
Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 40-32 win over Mattoon in seventh-grade action Saturday.
St. Anthony trailed Mattoon 20-17 at halftime then came back with a 10-5 third quarter run and outdistanced Mattoon 13-7 in the final period.
Walsh scored 18 while Lawrence chipped in with eight.

At Decatur
Teutopolis nabbed two victories over Decatur Robertson Saturday.
In seventh-grade action, T-town was a 51-35 winner. The Shoes took a 27-15 halftime lead then had a 24-20 second half.
Addis tallied 17 for the Shoes while M. Deters chipped in with 15.
In the eighth-grade contest, T-town edged out Robertson 42-38. The Shoes held a 19-18 halftime lead. Robertson came back with a 13-10 third quarter run to pull within 33-31 going into the final quarter. T-town then had a 9-7 edge.
Ungrund tallied 14 and Hemmen 11 for the Shoes.
