St. Anthony Girls Win at Neoga

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs won over the Neoga Lady Indians in National Trail Conference girls basketball Thursday night. St. Anthony won 54-47 at Neoga in a contest heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.  

Neoga was able to be successful early in the contest and led 17-13 after one quarter. However, St. Anthony held Neoga to just 13 points in the middle two quarters. The Bulldogs led 27-24 at halftime and led 40-30 after three quarters. Neoga mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter and pulled within five points, but St. Anthony made enough foul shots down the stretch to post the seven-point win.

St. Anthony shot 42% from the field, hitting 18 of 43 shots including four of 13 threes. The Bulldogs made 14 of 20 foul shots, turned the ball over 15 times and pulled down 27 rebounds. Neoga shot 36% from the field, making 16 of 44 shots including five of 18 threes. The Indians hit 10 of 17 from the line, committed 19 turnovers and grabbed 22 rebounds.

St. Anthony featured balanced scoring. Abby Weis and Abby Brown each scored 10 points, Emma Richards 9, Hunter Niebrugge 8, Maddie Schuette 6, Abbie Schmidt and Kyla Burton 4 each, and Emily McDevitt 3.

Neoga's E.C. Thies led all scorers with 24 points. Jaycie Roy scored 11, Blair Banning 6, Kacie Hotze 4, and Ashley Dryden 2.

St. Anthony improved to 12-10 and is 5-0 in the National Trail Conference. Neoga dropped to 16-6. Both teams begin play Saturday in the National Trail Conference Tournament, where Neoga is the #1 seed and St. Anthony is #2.

St. Anthony won the JV game 32-17. Olivia Clausius and Meg Richards each scored seven points to lead St. Anthony.
