NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School stepped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 59-21 National Trail Conference win over Neoga Tuesday evening in boys action.

The Bulldogs went on an 18-6 opening quarter run then pulled back a little to lead 27-11 at halftime. The Bulldogs then had a 16-2 third quarter surge.

Two players finished in double figures for the winners as 11 players scored. Kyle Hartke, a 6-foot-0 senior, scored 11 while Drew Gibson, a 6-foot-3 junior, tallied 10. Cade Walsh scored nine.

Neoga was led by Holt with six points.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity game 33-25.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg handed South Central a 40-35 National Trail Conference loss.

The Hatchets stepped out to a 13-5 opening quarter lead but South Central came back to pull within 17-15 at halftime. The Cougars then edged WSS 12-11 in the third quarter and stood only a point back 28-27 going into the final quarter.

WSS got the momentum back in the final quarter for a 12-8 edge and the win. The Hatchets improve to 2-2 in the conference, 9-7 overall.

Overbeck tallied 14 points for the winners. Haddock chipped in with eight. South Central was led by Arnold with 10 while Harmeier and Mackley had nine each. The Cougars drop to 1-2 in the NTC, 5-11 overall.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis had a big scoring opening quarter and went on for a 67-53 victory over Mattoon Tuesday evening.

But Mattoon didn't go down easy. The Green Wave forced T-town into turnovers and took a 23-22 lead with a little over four minutes remaining in the second quarter. But T-town got back on track and finished out the second period with an 11-2 run to lead 34-26 at halftime.

Mattoon outscored the Shoes 14-13 in the third period to pull within 47-40. But T-town came back with a 20-13 run for the win.

Three players hit double digits for the Shoes as Mtich Hardiek led the way with 20 points while Devin Smith added 17 and Brett Mette 17. Hardiek nailed three trifectas.

The Shoes, ranked fifth in the latest Class 2A poll, improve to 14-2 while Mattoon dropped to 6-10.

Olney came calling and handed Dieterich a 54-46 non-conference loss Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons pulled ahead 17-9 in the opening quarter but Olney rallied for a 15-4 second period run to pull ahead 24-21 at halftime. The Tigers then had a 30-25 second half.

Stoltz tallied 22 for the winnenrs while Dobbs chipped in with 10. The Tigers improve to 12-6.

Dieterich was led by  L. Niemerg with 16 and T. Niemerg with 12.

Altamont handed Vandalia a 68-56 non-conference loss Tuesday evening.

The Indians trailed Vandalia 19-12 after the opening quarter and 30-27 at halftime. Altamont then mounted a big comeback with a 23-12 run to lead 50-42 going into the final quarter and had an 18-14 final period.

Armstrong tallied 18 for the Indians while Cornett chipped in with 10.

Shelbyville owned the first half, taking a 27-17 halftime lead over Newton. The Eagles came back with a 28-23 second half run but that first half was the killer.

Newton banged home seven three-pointers with Mammoser leading the way with four. Mammoser finished with 17 points as the only Eagles player in double figures. Newton drops to 6-10 on the season.

Miller led Shelbyville with 22 and Howell added 11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown bounced Ramsey 85-27 in action Tuesday to improve to 8-7 on the season.

SEB stepped out to a 41-14 halftime lead then had a 44-13 second half run. Landon Feezel tallied 21 while Kyle Hardimon scored 13, Noah Flowers 13 and Dylan Brooks 11. Feezel connected on five of eight three-pointers as the Eagles hit 12 for the game.

Brody Black led Ramsey with 18.
