CHBC F/S Girls Basketball Tourney Results

COWDEN -- Pana captured the championship of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Freshman/Sophomore Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

In opening round play, CHBC defeated Ramsey 35-27, Pana downed Effingham Red 29-11, Effingham White won over Robinson 46-18 and Teutopolis beat Alton Marquette 41-6.

In the second round, Pana defeated CHBC 36-22, Effingham White won over Teutopolis 42-33, Effingham Red beat Ramsey 29-9 and Robinson claimed a 40-27 win over Alton Marquette.

The seventh place game went to Pana 2 over Ramsey 47-35. Ramsey was to play Alton Marquette but the team went home early due to weather-related issues. Pana split into two teams to fill the gap.

The consolation championship was claimed by Effingham Red over Robinson 29-24. Robinson held a 15-12 first half lead but Effingham came back with a 17-9 second half to pull out the win.

Effingham Red was led by Deain with 10 points.

In the third place contest, Teutopolis bounced host CHBC 55-16. The Wooden Shoes held a 36-9 halftime lead.

T-town was led by Frey with 16 and Niebrugge with 14. CHBC was led by Smith with six.

In the championship game, Pana defeated Effingham White 36-29. Pana had a big second quarter run, outscoring Effingham White 10-1 for a 20-9 halftime lead. Effingham White came back in the second half with a 20-16 run but couldn't make up that second quarter deficit.

Carie led Effingham White with 15 points.
