South Central, Altamont Drop Boys High School Games

FARINA -- South Central High School dropped a 52-28 loss to Flora in boys basketball competition Saturday.

The evening was accented by the gymnasium officially taking the name of the Gary L. Shirley Memorial Gymnasium in memory and honor of longtime coach and teacher, Gary Shirley.

Shirley coached baseball and basketball at South Central and died in 2014 at the age of 59.

South Central trailed Flora 12-5 after the first quarter and 23-13 at halftime. Flora then had a 20-10 final quarter run.

Gocey tallied 20 for the winners. South Central was led by Arnold with nine. The Cougars drop to 5-10 on the season.

At Woodlawn

Altamont traveled to Woodlawn and suffered a 75-64 defeat Saturday evening.

The Indians stepped out to an 18-13 first quarter lead and led 29-23 at halftime. Woodlawn came roaring back with a 23-18 count in the third quarter. Owens knocked in three trifectas and Woodlawn connected on seven of eight free throws.

Woodlawn then had a 29-17 final quarter for the win. Four players scored in double figures for Woodlawn with Owens and Harris scoring 21 each, Ballard 12 and Wollerman 10.

Altamont was led by Ryan Armstrong with 26 points. He connected on eight field goals, including two trifectas, and was eight of eight at the line. Also in double figures was Adam Mayhaus with 11.
