Bulldogs Beat ALAH, Area Boys Basketball Roundup

It was a low-scoring contest, but Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up a victory by downing Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 40-23 in a rare Monday boys basketball game.

The Bulldogs trailed ALAH 5-3 after the opening quarter. But St. Anthony got things going in the second quarter as Drew Gibson tallied five and Cade Walsh five and the Bulldogs led 18-11 at halftime.

St. Anthony continued to build on its lead with a 12-6 third period run and had a 10-6 final quarter score.

Gibson finished as the only player in the contest in double figures with 13.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Okaw Valley 51-48 after trailing 21-4 after the opening quarter.

WSS came back with an 18-6 second period run to pull within 27-22 at halftime. The Hatchets continued their momentumn with a 13-9 third period to pull within a point going into the final quarter. WSS then completed its comeback with a 16-12 final quarter for the win.

Warner tallied 27 for the winners. The Hatchets improve to .500 with a 6-6 record. Okaw Valley dropped to 7-6.

At Virden

St. Elmo/Brownstown traveled to Virdin North Mac and fell 56-42 in a non-conference contest Monday.

North Mac edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead then pushed that to 30-20 at halftime. SEB had a 15-11 final quarter run but it was too  late.

North Mac connected on 62 percent for the game and was 10 of 18 at the free throw line. SEB hit only 34 percent from the field and was 15 of 24 at the line for 62 percent.

Landon Feezel tallied 14 points while Trey Pasley added 11.
