Dieterich Claims Own Boys Tourney Title, Area Tourney Roundup

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School captured the championship of its own boys holiday basketball tournament Tuesday evening.
The Movin' Maroons defeated Oblong 53-41 in the title contest. Dieterich held a 25-12 halftime lead and never looked back in this one.
Three players scored in double figures. N. Feldhake tallied 15 while L. Niemerg and T. Niemerg scored 12 each. Feldhake connected on three trifectas.
In the third place contest, Arcola downed Okaw Valley 59-37.
The fifth place game went to Newton over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 64-48. The Eagles stepped out to a 21-10 opening quarter lead and led 36-25 at halftime. Newton then had a 28-23 second half run.
Cohorst led Newton with 17 points while Stone added 16.
In the seventh place game, Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick defeated North Clay (Louisville) 56-47. The Eagles led 33-24 at halftime. North Clay came back with a 16-10 third period run to pull within 43-40 going into the final quarter. BCCH regained the momentum with a 13-7 run.
Blackerby led the winners with 14 points while Rexroad and Warder tallied 13 each.
North Clay was led by Warren with 11 and Walker with 10.

Monticello Holiday Tournament
Sangamon Valley defeated Neoga 58-30 for seventh place in the Monticello Tournament Tuesday evening.
Sangamon Valley stepped out to a 19-5 lead and led 38-14 at halftime. Brown scored 13 for the winners while Ma. Hhutchins added 12.
Neoga was led by Kersey with six.
The fifth place game went to Tuscola over Argentea-Oreana 53-38. The championship was captured by Ridgveiw over Monticello 58-49.

Tri-County Holiday Tournament
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a victory but also suffered a loss in the Tri-County Tournament Tuesday.
In the opening game of the day, Chicago Christ the King defeated Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 45-20. Christ the King led 27-18 at halftime then had an 18-2 second half.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Warner with 10 points.
Tri-County then defeated Martinsville 63-43 followed by Paris over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 55-36. Westville defeated Hutsonvilel/Palestine 63-41.
Windsor/Stew-Stras then bounced Martinsville 86-35. The Hatchets had a 54-21 halftime lead and never looked back.
Overbeck scored 22 while Thies added 13, Warner 12 and Ballinger 10 for the Hatchets. Windsor/Stew-Stras will face Paris at 6 p.m. for third place.
In other games Tuesday, Christ the King beat Tri-County 52-41, ALAH won over Hutsonvilel/Palestine 46-33 and Westville downed Paris 57-44.
Christ the King will meet Westville for the championship at 5:30 p.m. Tri-County takes on ALAH for fifth place and Martinsville and Hutsonville/Palestine meet for seventh place at 1.
