Dieterich Girls Tourney Finals After Monday's Games

DIETERICH -- Brownstown/St. Elmo and Newton will be playing for the championship of the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament this evening after both picked up two victories Monday evening.

Brownstown/St. Elmo defeated North Clay (Louisville) 51-33 in the opening game Monday, BSE took a 25-19 halftime lead then had a 19-1 third quarter run.

BSE was led by Fitch with 13 and Brown with 11. North Clay was led by Fleener with 12.

In the second contest, Newton handed Arcola a 44-27 loss. The Eagles led 22-9 at halftime and never let up.

Richards scored 12 while Cohorst chipped in with 10 for the winners.

BSE then defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 69-44. The Bombers stepped out to a 23-14 opening quarter lead and led 26-23 at halftime. BSE then had a 22-8 final quarter run.

Fitch and Brown were the one-two scoring punch for the winners with 23 and 20 points respectively. Bone chipped in with 10.

CHBC was led by Johnson with 12.

North Clay downed South Central 47-38. Jones scored 18 while Groves and Darcy Fender added eight each. The Cardinals had a 27-15 halftime lead.

South Central was led by Hahn with 30 points.

Casey-Westfield then defeated Arcola 55-33.

The final contest went to Newton over Dieterich 48-20. The Eagles pushed into a 29-11 halftime lead and had a 19-9 second half run.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Frohning with 12 and Kline with 10.

Dieterich was led by Bannick with eight points.

CHBC faces Dieterich at 1 p.m. for seventh place followed by South Central against Arcola at 2:30 for fifth place. North Clay squares off against Casey-Westfield at 4 p.m. for third place and BSE meets Newton at 6 for the championship.
