Neoga Girls Win, Boys Lose at Monticello Tourney

MONTICELLO -- Neoga High School stepped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead on Argenta-Oreana and went on for a 73-18 trouncing in opening round play at the Monticello Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

EC Thies scored 21 for the winners while Jaycie Roy tallied 17. Ashley Dryden chipped in with 11. The Eagles led 35-10 at halftime and 48-15 going into the final quarter.

In other girls games, Monticello beat Stark County 52-28, Tuscola won over GCMS 54-38, Mount Zion downed Ridgeview 52-46, Tuscola beat Monticello 55-48 and GCMS defeated Stark County 53-42.

The Neoga girls play Ridgeview at 10 a.m. today and Mount Zion at 6 p.m.

In boys competition, Neoga fell to Argenta-Oreana 64-23. Argenta-Oreana held the Indians scoreless, taking an 18-0 first quarter lead. Argenta-Oreana had a 22-2 third period surge.

Neoga was led by Holt with seven points. The Indians are playing Ridgeview at 11:30 a.m. today and Blue Ridge at 7:30 p.m.

In other boys games Saturday, GCMS defeated Tuscola 54-37, Monticello won over Sangamon Valley 79-38, Ridgeview defeated Blue Ridge 69-54, GCMS bounced Sangamon Valley 71-43 and Monticello downed Tuscola 64-48.
