Six Games Contested at Dieterich Girls Tournament

Six games opened play Saturday at the Dieterich Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Casey-Westfield tallied a 50-21 victory over Dieterich to get things started. The Warriors took a 10-6 opening quarter lead and led 24-11 at halftime. Casey-Westfield then ran off an 18-6 third quarter and never looked back.

Dieterich was led by Shadle with six points.

In the second contest, South Central defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 41-25. The Cougars stepped out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead before the two teams played even the rest of the way.

The Cougars were led by Smith with 13 points and Hahn with 12. CHBC was led by Endsley with seven points.

Newton handed Casey-Westfield a 70-46 loss. The Eagles had a big scoring opening quarter in a 21-3 run and took control of the contest.

The Eagles' Richards tallied 27 points while Hartrich chipped in with 17.

North Clay (Louisville) then defeated CHBC 42-39. The two teams were tied at 13-13 after the opening quarter. The Cardinals edged ahead with a 24-13 run over the next two quarters.

North Clay's Jones and Stanfield led with eight in even scoring while Groves and Fleener chipped in with seven each. CHBC was led by Endsley with 15.

Brownstown/St. Elmo edged South Central 43-40. BSE went ahead 19-14 at halftime. South Central came back with a 15-11 third quarter run to pull within 30-29 going into the final quarter. But BSE regained control with a 13-11 edge.

Brown tallied 22 for the winners. South Central was led by Hahn with 18.

Arcola then defeated Dieterich 46-37 in overtime in the final game of the day. The Movin' Maroons held a 21-19 halftime lead.  Arcola came back with a 7-4 third quarter run to lead 26-25 going into the final quarter.  Dieterich knotted the score, sending the game into overtime.

Arcola then had a 9-0 run in the overtime period.

Dieterich was led by Bannick with 13.

The tourney continues today with six more games.
