The St. Anthony Bulldogs withstood a furious fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Patoka Warriors, 59-50, in boys basketball action Tuesday night at the Enlow Center. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

St. Anthony held a 15-point lead, 44-29, heading into the final period, but Patoka cut the lead to three and had a game-tying shot come up empty. The Bulldogs then killed some clock and made some clutch foul shots to post the nine-point win.

The Bulldogs led 16-8 after the first quarter and 31-21 at halftime, then outscored the Warriors 13-8 in the third quarter.

A key for St. Anthony was owning the boards in the first three periods, seeming to get as many shots as they needed to score. The Bulldogs finished with a 41-26 rebounding edge, with Nick Grunloh grabbing 11 rebounds, Jeff Niebrugge 10 and James Kabbes 9.

Drew Gibson was the big gun offensively for St. Anthony, scoring 15 first half points and going six for six from the line in the fourth quarter to finish with 21 points. He had five rebounds. Grunloh scored eight points, Niebrugge seven, all in the fourth quarter, and Kabbes six. Cade Walsh scored eight points including two threes, Kyle Hartke scored five points, and Chandler Martelli four.

St. Anthony also played some tough defense on high-powered offensive threat Jered Cain, holding him to 14 points. Garrett Belcher led Patoka with 16 points, Shane Cain seven, Bailey O'Brien six, Jordan Cobb four, and Dylan Back three. Belcher had seven rebounds and O'Brien six.

St. Anthony shot 38% from the field, making 20 of 52. The Bulldogs hit 13 of 16 from the line, committed 14 turnovers, and made six of 18 three-point tries.

Patoka shot 45% from the field, finishing 21 of 47, although 13 of 24 in the second half. The Warriors made just three of nine foul shots, turned the ball over 12 times and made five of 13 threes.

St. Anthony won for the sixth time in seven outings following an 0-3 start to improve to 6-4. Patoka fell to 12-4 on the season.

St. Anthony won the JV game 67-22 with Alex Deters scoring 11 and Jack Nuxoll 10 to pace the JV Bulldogs.
