Stew-Stras/Windsor Pick Up Two Wins at ALAH Tourney Opening Day

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor High School captured two victories in opening round play of the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights Classic Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament Monday.

SSW defeated Fithian Oakwood 41-35 in game four.  The score was tied at 8-8 after the opening quarter before SSW moved ahead 17-13 at halftime then had an 24-21 second half.

Trussell tallied 12 to lead the winners while Schuler scored nine.

SSW then defeated Cumberland 62-45 in the final game of the evening. SSW had a 20-8 second period surge and never looked back.

Schlechte and Tabbert scored 15 each while Schuler tacked on 11.

Cumberland suffered another defeat, this one to Decatur St. Teresa 57-23. St. Teresa took a 17-3 opening quarter lead and led 36-8 at halftime.

The Pirates were led by Marti with seven points.

Stew-Stras/Windsor will face Decatur St. Teresa today at 1 p.m. Cumberland takes on Oakwood at 4 p.m. The tourney will come to a close with the finals Wednesday.

In other games Monday, Chrisman defeated Shelbyville 59-30, Tri-County won over ALAH 51-43 and ALAH then downed Shelbyville 50-22.
