Elks Hoop Shoot Winners Named

Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13 years old, won first round competition in the Elks' Hoop Shoot free throw contest held at Effingham High School Saturday, December 12 and have been named local Effingham Elks Hoop Shoot champions. There were 84 participants from the area schools.

First two places were awarded trophies and third place received medals in each age category, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. All of the participants recevied Elks National Frisbee and Culvers ice cream coupons.

The six champions will now advanced to the East Central District Hoop Shoot contest which will be held Sunday, January 16 at St. Anthony Junior High School's Goff Gym. Check-in time starts at 11:30 a.m. with the shoot to start at noon.

First place winners were:

12-13 Year-Old Boys -- Jarrett Tharp (Jasper Junior High School), made 19 of 25, shootoff, 5 of 5, shootoff, 5 of 5. Son of Linda Sharp.

12-13 Year-Old Girls -- Olivia Titus (Neoga Junior High School), made 20 of 25. Daughter of Brian and Sara Titus.

10-11 Year Old Boys -- Austin Wittenberg (Stewardson-Strasburg), made 17 of 25. Son of Barry and Courtney Wittenberg.

10-11 Year Old Girls -- Kassidy Smith (Stewardson-Strasburg), made 13 of 25. Daughter of Kristia Smith.

8-9 Year Old Boys -- Alex Kremer (Teutopolis Grade School), made 18 of 25. Son of Roy and Monica Kremer.

8-9 Year Old Girls -- Malia Shadle (Dieterich), made 14 of 25.  Daughter of Dan and Stephenie Shadle.

Second Places were:

12-13 Year Old Boys -- Aidan Jahraus (Altamont Lutheran), made 19 of 25, shootoff, 5 of 5, shootoff, 3 of 5. Son of Brady and Staci Jahraus.

12-13 Year Old Girls -- Lauren Walker (Altamont Lutheran), made 17 of 25. Daughter of Michael and Kendra Walker.

10-11 Year Old Boys -- Eric Kollmann (Altamont), made 16 of 25, shootoff, 5 of 5, shootoff, 3 of 5. Son of Alan and Michelle Kollmann.

10-11 Year Old Girls -- Ava Kessler (Newton Elementary), made 12 of 25, shootoff, 3 of 5. Daughter of Dan and Kim Kessler.

8-9 Year Old Boys -- Samuel Link (St. Anthony), made 16 of 25. Son of Adam and Laura Link

8-9 Year Old Girls -- Elley Bennett (Newton St. Thomas), made 11 of 25. Daughter of John and Shasta Bennett.

Third Places were:

12-13 Year-Old Boys -- Reece Johnson (Neoga Junior High), made 18 of 25.

12-13 Year-Old Girls -- Hanna Hayes (Stewardson-Strasburg), made 15 of 25.

10-11 Year Old Boys -- Adam Lustig (Teutopolis Grade School), made 16 of 25, shootoff, 5 of 5, shootoff, 1 of 5.

10-11 Year-Old Girls -- Allison Schmidt (Dieterich), made 12 of 25, shootoff, 2 of 5.

8-9 Year-Old Boys -- Jeff Faught (Dieterich), made 15 of 25.

8-9 Year-Old Girls -- Elle Kinkelaar (Trinity Lutheran), made 10 of 25, shootoff, 3 of 5, shootoff, 4 of 5.

The 24th annual Doris (Carie Zerrusen) plaque was given to Olivia Titus of Neoga for making the most free throws of the 42 girl participants by making 20 of 25. The 10th Annual Taylor Worman plaque was given to Jarrett Tharp of Jasper Junior High, for making the most free throws of the 42 boys participating by making 19 out of 25.

Zerrusen and Worman were past National Champions of the Elks Hoop Shoot.
