Brett Mette scored 24 points to lead the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes to a 62-54 win over the Effingham Hearts in high school basketball action Tuesday night. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

Mette was a force, hitting seven of nine shots from the field including five of six from three-point range. He also made five of eight foul shots and pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds.

It was still anybody's game well into the fourth quarter.

Teutopolis led 19-14 after one quarter, but Effingham pulled to within 31-29 at halftime. After numerous lead changes in the first half, Teutopolis led most of the second half, but could never quite put Effingham away, despite a tough shooting night for the Hearts. T-Town was ahead 42-38 after three quarters, but then got a lead of nine a couple of times in the final period before posting the eight-point victory.
