St. Anthony Has a Happy Homecoming w/Big Win Over BCCH

The St. Anthony Bulldogs posted an impressive performance Tuesday night in defeating the Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick Eagles 76-33 in boys high school basketball. The Homecoming game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com 

St. Anthony took advantage of 29 Eagle turnovers to cruise to the win. The Bulldogs were already up 23-10 after one quarter, led 39-20 at halftime and were ahead 57-28 after three periods before outscoring the Eagles 19-5 in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs shot 49% from the field, hitting 30 of 61 shots, including five of 16 on three-point tries. St. Anthony made 12 of 17 foul shots, committed just nine turnovers and pulled down 26 rebounds.

BCCH made just nine of 32 shots for 28%, hit 12 of 23 free throws, and grabbed 20 rebounds while making three of nine three-point attempts.

Nick Grunloh led a balanced St. Anthony attack with 17 points while Drew Gibson added 14 points. Also for St. Anthony: James Kabbes 8, Jay Niebrugge 8, Chandler Martelli 7, Kyle Hartke 7, Cade Walsh 6, Jeff Niebrugge 5, Alex Beesley 2, and Adam Levitt 2.

Austin Rexroad scored 10 points to pace BCCH. Also for the Eagles: Konner Blackerby 8, Micah Sandiford 3, Westin Giles 3, Lance Arnold 2, Daniel Harder 2, Andrew Moeller 2, Trey Buzzard 2, and Cody Grove 1.

St. Anthony pulled back to .500 at 3-3 with the win, while BCCH is now 2-1. It was the National Trail Conference opener for both teams.

St. Anthony won the JV game 62-38. Alex Beesley led the way with 16 points.
