Junior High Girls Seventh-Grade Sectionals -- Dec. 2

Three area seventh-grade girls basketball teams will be heading to state. Claiming championships Wednesday evening were Sigel St. Michael, Altamont and Teutopolis.

 

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Sigel St. Michael claimed the championship of its own sectional Wednesday evening. The Sharpshooters trounced Pana Sacred Heart 31-8.

St. Michael advances to the state tournament at Normal Chiddix Junior High School with a perfect 22-0 record. The Sharpshooters will face Carthage (22-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

Class 2A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional

Altamont stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead on North Clay (Louisville) and never looked back in a 32-14 victory.

Altamont held a 22-9 first half lead. McManaway tallied 12 points while Runge scored seven for the winners. Altamont is now 23-2 on the season.

North Clay was led by Madison Lovett with 10 points. North Clay ends the season at 12-6.

Altamont advances to the state tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School and will face Decatur Hope (18-0) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

At Effingham

Class 7-3A Marshall Sectional

Teutopolis came out the champion in this low scoring contest by edging Jasper County 18-15. The Shoes took a 5-4 first quarter lead and led 7-6 at halftime.

Jasper County came back to take a 10-9 lead going into the final quarter before T-town pulled out the victory with a 9-5 run. Carly Michels scored 10 for the winners who improve to 16-8.

Jasper County was led by Whitney Zumbahlen with six points. Jasper County finishes the season at 15-10.

Teutopolis advances to the state tournament at Auburn High School and will face Morris Saratoga (22-1) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
