Bulldogs Win, Eagles Lose in Girls Basketball

Effingham St. Anthony moved its overall girls basketball record to 4-3 on the season by downing Casey-Westfield 51-24 at the Enlow Center Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs moved ahead 15-6 in the opening quarter as four players connected. Emma Richards scored five points to lead the way.
St. Anthony continued its hot scoring with a 14-4 second quarter run to lead 29-10 at halftime. Abby Weis hit two baskets including a three-pointer.
Richards finished with 13 points and Weis 11 to lead the Bulldogs. Weis had three assists and six rebounds while Richards had four steals and seven boards.
"We shot a nice percentage from the field and our defense was great, only giving up eight points in a quarter one time," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman.
St. Anthony won the junior varsity contest 43-20.

Charleston picked up a 74-49 victory over Newton. The Trojans took a 19-9 opening quarter lead and led 37-23 at halftime.
The Eagles were led by Hartrich with 17 points and Richards with 11. Newton drops to 3-4 on the season.
