DIETERICH -- Effingham picked up a 51-14 win over Dieterich in junior high eighth-grade boys basketball action Monday.

The Mustangs tallied 22 points while holding Dieterich scoreless in the opening quarter. Snow and Pemberton scored eight points each for the winners. Thirteen players scored in the game for the Mustangs who improve to 2-6.

Dieterich was led by Hall with seven points.

In the seventh-grade game, Effingham claimed a 49-16 victory to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Duncan and Wolfe tallied eight points each for the winners. Westendorf led Dieterich with five.

At Newton

Effingham St. Anthony and Jasper County split victories. The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest 38-21.

St. Anthony leaped out to a 24-4 first half lead. Walsh tallied eight while Moore and Antrim had seven each. Jasper County was led by Hartke with seven.

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County edged St. Anthony 47-45. Jasper County took a 13-5 opening quarter lead and held that margin at halftime 28-20. St. Anthony started coming back with a 15-10 third period run and outscored Jasper County 10-9 in the final quarter but didn't make up the first quarter deficit.

Tharp tallied 18 for the winners. Hoene led St. Anthony with 27.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis handed Sigel St. Michael two losses. The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game 43-19.

T-town took an 18-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Ungrund scored 15 and Hardiek 11 for the winners. The Sharpshooters were led by K. Fearday with 10.

In eighth-grade action, T-town picked up a 36-20 win. The Shoes held St. Michael scoreless in the second quarter for a 23-6 halftime lead. Addis tallied 15 for the winners.

St. Michael was led by Croy with 10.
