FARINA -- Brownstown/St. Elmo edged South Central 59-50 in girls high school basketball action Monday evening.
BSE leaped out to a 19-7 opening quarter lead but South Central came back to pull within 28-19 at halftime. BSE held a 43-29 lead going into the final quarter. The Cougars then had a 21-16 run only to fall short.
"We played well in spurts tonight," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "We just have to learn how to handle the pressure of game situations better. That will come with playing. Their press made us panic when we did not have to. We are capable of playing against one, but we just have to recognize who is open, make some pass fakes and get rid of the ball quicker. Our halfcourt offense was not bad, but we wanted to force thngns some tonight. We will continue to work on improving."
BSE was led by Brown with 21 points and Moore with 12. South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 17. The Cougars drop to 1-1 in the National Trail Conference, 2-1 overall.
