MATTOON -- Effingham St. Anthony edged Mattoon 39-34 in freshman/sophomore girls basketball action Monday evening.
The Bulldogs took a 10-9 opening quarter lead and led 22-15 at halftime. The Green Wave came roaring back with a 10-4 third quarter run to pull within 26-25 but the Bulldogs steadied and finished the game strong with a 13-9 score.
Olivia Clausius tallied 11 points while Maryann Saba added eight for the Bulldogs.

In boys freshman and sophomore action, T-town defeated Dieterich twice.
The Wooden Shoes won 56-28 in the freshman game. T-town was led in scoring by Dawson Smith, Clint Weber and Josh Hardiek with 10 points each. Dieterich was led by Bohnhoff with eight points.
In the sophomore contest, T-town won 61-49. Lee Hardiek tallied 14 points and Jack Goeckner 10 for the winners. Radloff led Dieterich with 18 points.

St. Anthony claimed two freshman victories over Charleston Monday evening.
The Bulldogs won the freshman A contest 60-17 with a 32-9 first half score. Colin Koester tallied 16, Alex Brandenburger 12 and Ben Strullmeyer 11 for the winners.
In the B game, St. Anthony won 37-23. The Bulldogs led 21-12 at halftime then had a 16-11 second half run. Mendella and Ludwig had seven points each for the Bulldogs.
