Junior High Eighth-Grade Girls Regionals -- Nov. 30

Class 4-A Effingham Regional

Effingham saw its season come to a close with a 21-11 loss to Mattoon in opening round play of its own girls eighth-grade basketball regional Monday evening.

The Mustangs fell behind 4-2 after the opening quarter and 10-6 at halftime. The Mustangs never could get untracked and Mattoon had an 11-5 second half run.

Niebrugge scored six for Effingham which finished the season with a 5-14 record.

Class 8-2A Altamont Regional

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick won the opening contest at the Altamont Regional by beating Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 37-22.

BCCH led 16-8 at halftime then had a 21-14 second half run. Wojcik tallied 10 for the winners. SSW was led by Bennett with seven.

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick (13-8) now advances to face Brownstown/St. Elmo at 6 p.m. today followed by Altamont taking on Neoga at 7:15.

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

South Central moved into the second round of the St. Anthony Regional Monday evening.

Fourth-seeded South Central downed fifth-seeded Palestine 23-19. South Central advances to a 6 p.m. meeting with North Clay (Louisville) today.

In the second game tonight, St. Anthony faces Oblong at 7:15.

Class 8-3A Pana Regional

Pana picked up a victory in its own regional Monday evening. Pana, seeded fourth, defeated fifth-seeded Cumberland 30-2.

Pana will now face Teutopolis tonight at 6 followed by Shelbyville Moulton against Vandalia at 7:15.

Class 8-3A Marshall Regional

Three games were contested in opening round play at the Marshall Regional Monday.

Edwards County (Albion) claimed a 38-25 win over host Marshall. Casey-Westfield downed Robinson Nuttall 30-15. Lawrenceville Parkview was a 38-5 winner over Red Hill (Bridgeport).

Thursday's games feature Jasper County against Edwards County at 6 followed by Casey-Westfield taking on Lawrenceville Parkview at 7:15.

Class 8-1A Cisne Regional

Effingham Sacred Heart was set to take on host Cisne Monday evening. No score has been reported on this contest.
