Bulldogs Sixth At Taylorville Girls Meet, SSW Finishes Out At Pana Tourney

TALORVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School finished sixth in the Taylorville Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs squared off against Jacksonville for the consolation championship Saturday and fell 48-31. St. Anthony took a 13-11 first quarter lead, hitting three trifectas in the quarter. Emily McDevitt nailed two trifectas while Madison Schuette scored one. Jacksonville came back with an 8-3 second period surge to lead 19-16 at halftime.

Jacksonville continued on with a 12-10 third period run and outscored the Bulldogs 17-5 in the final quarter. Emma Richards led St. Anthony with 10 points, 13 rebounds and two steals. She was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Bulldogs are 3-3.

The championship went to Hillsboro over Auburn 59-51. Third place was claimed by Lincoln over Taylorville 59-34. The seventh place contest was nabbed by Mount Zion by edging Decatur Eisenhower 41-37.

At Pana

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor fell to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 53-48 in the seventh-place game at the Pana Tournament  Saturday.

SSW edged out to a 16-14 opening quarter lead and the score was knotted at 27-27 at halftime. CORL then took a 36-34 lead going into the final quarter and outscored the Bulldogs for the win.

SSW was led by Tabbert with 15 points and Schuler with 11.
