CHBC Girls Basketball Tourney Gets Underway

COWDEN -- The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Basketball Tournament got underway Tuesday evening.

In the opening contest, Ramsey claimed a 49-40 win over host CHBC. Ramsey held a 32-26 halftime lead then had a 13-4 third quarter run to put the game in the win category. Skye Kimberlin was the leader with 33 points.  She connected on 10 field goals including three trifectas and was 10 of 15 at the line.

CHBC was led by Felicia Johnson with 16.

In the second game, Brownstown/St. Elmo fell behind 9-6 after the opening quarter but had a 19-6 second period run and went on to beat Dieterich 48-35.

Three players hit double digits for the winners. Morgan Brown tallied 12, Kyrstyn Fitch 11 and Gabi Moore 10. Dieterich was led by Kallee Heuerman with 12 and Anna Shadle with 11.

In the final game of the evening, Neoga edged North Clay (Louisville), 50-46. The Indians trailed North Clay 15-14 after the opening quarter but took a 31-26 halftime lead. The Cardinals came back with a 13-7 third period run to take a 39-38 lead going in the final quarter. Neoga then rallied with a 12-7 run.

Kacie Hotze scored 19 for the winners. Taylor Jones tallied 19 for North Clay.

The tournament continues Friday with six games on tap. CHBC meets Neoga at 11 a.m. followed by Dieterich against North Clay at 12:30, Ramsey meets BSE at 2 p.m., Neoga takes on Dieterich at 3:30, BSE goes against CHBC at 5 and North Clay faces Ramsey at 6:30.
