Altamont, Newton Claim Wins at Cumberland Boys Tourney

TOLEDO -- Altamont High School tallied a 57-29 win over Neoga in opening round play of the Cumberland Boys Turkey Tournament Monday evening.

The Indians, playing at the junior high school, stepped out to a 17-8 opening quarter lead and pushed ahead 41-12 at halftime. Brandon Hosick connected on three trifectas in the opening half and finished with 13 points, all in the first half, while Ryan Armstrong went to work in the second period with five baskets and had 12 points at halftime and totaled 14 for the game.

Neoga was led by Caleb Hill with eight points.

In the second game, Charleston handed Paris a 64-55 loss.

In games at the high school, Chrisman opened with a 52-45 win over Dieterich. The two teams were even after the opening quarter at 11-11 before Dieterich edged ahead 22-18 at halftime.

Christman came back with a 17-11 third quarter run to pull ahead 35-33 and then had a 17-12 final period surge.

L. Niemerg and T. Niemerg tallied 15 points each to lead the Movin' Maroons.

In the second contest, Newton handed host Cumberland a 69-55 defeat. The Eagles took the early lead at 19-6 in the opening quarter and 37-27 at halftime. Cumberland came back with a 17-9 third quarter run to pull within 46-44 but the Eagles got back on track with a 23-11 score in the final quarter.

Mammoser led the Eagles with 23 points while Weber added 12 and Harris chipped in with 10.

Cumberland was led by McMechan with 18 and Burgess with 16.
