T-town Nabs Two Wins at Salem Thanksgiving Tourney

SALEM -- Teutopolis claimed two victories Saturday in the 15th Annual Salem Wildcat Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes defeated Carlyle 66-34. T-town stepped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead and led 30-12 at halftime then had a 22-9 third period surge.

Three players hit double figures. Hartke tallied 17 while Thompson added 12 and Repking 10.

In the second contest, T-town edged Bethalto Civic Memorial 51-47. The Shoes trailed 18-10 after the opening quarter and 30-28 at halftime. In the second quarter, Hartke tallied eight points while Smith had six for the Shoes.

In the third quarter, T-town broke loose with a 16-6 run to pull ahead 44-36. Thompson hit three baskets, including a three-pointer, for seven points in the period.

Civic Memorial came back with an 11-7 final period run but couldn't make up that third quarter difference.

Thompson and Hartke scored 14 points each for the Shoes while Sandschafer added 10. Hartke pulled down nine rebounds and Thompson had six. Thompson led in steals with three.

In other games Saturday, Civic Memorial beat Centralia 41-33, Salem beat Highland 41-38, Olney beat Belleville East 64-41, Centralia beat Carlyle 60-38, Highland beat Bellevilleel East 55-36 and Salem beat Olney 67-43.

In action this Saturday, Centralia will take on Belleville East at 9 a.m. followed by Olney meeting Carlyle at 10:30 in consolation bracket action while Teutopolis faces Highland at noon and Salem will go against Bethalto Civic Memorial at 1:30 in winner bracket play. The championship game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. while third place will be held at 7 p.m. The consolation championship is at 5:30 p.m. while seventh-place is at 4 p.m.

At Pana

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor suffered two losses Saturday in the Pana Girls Basketball Tournament.

SSW went down to Central A&M 83-26 then fell to Williamsville 54-17. That drops the Hatchets to 0-3 in pool play.

In other games Saturday, Mattoon beat Centralia CORL 62-39, Williamsville beat Pana 53-42, Piasa Southwestern beat Athens 57-40, Athens beat Centralia CORL 68-34, Mattoon beat Piasa Southwestern 46-35 and Central A&M beat Pana 56-38.

Central A&M finished with a 3-0 pool record followed by Williamsville 1-2, Pana 1-2 and SSW 0-3. Piasa Southwestern finished 2-1 in pool play followed by Athens 2-1, Mattoon 2-1 and Centralia CORL 0-3.

Action continues this Friday as SSW faces Mattoon at 4:30 p.m.
