Bulldogs Split Wins Saturday at Taylorville

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony split victories in the Taylorville Thanksgiving Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell to Taylorville 48-44. St. Anthony stepped out to a 13-7 opening quarter lead but Taylorville came roaring back to lead 25-22 at halftime. The Tornadoes continued with a 15-9 third quarter count. St. Anthony made a comeback bid in the final quarter but fell short.

Madison Schuette led the Bulldogs with 11 points.

In the second game, St. Anthony beat Jacksonville 46-34. The Bulldogs edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter lead then went into high gear with a 14-6 run to lead 26-17 at halftime. The Bulldogs had a 20-17 second half lead.

Schuette and Abby Brown tallied nine points each for the Bulldogs while Abby Weis scored eight. The Bulldogs had seven three-pointers, three by Brown and Schuette and one by Emily McDevitt.

St. Anthony finished pool play with a 1-2 record and will now face Decatur Eisenhower Friday at 3:30 p.m.

In other games Saturday, Auburn beat Mount Zion 52-19, Decatur Eisenhower beat Lincoln 78-41, Hillsboro beat Jacksonville 72-46, Auburn beat Eisenhower 64-46, Lincoln beat Mount Zion 64-34 and Hillsboro edged Taylorville 67-66.

In action Friday, St. Anthony faces Eisenhower followed by Jacksonville against Mount Zion at 5, Taylorville facing Auburn at 6:30 and HIllsboro taking on Lincoln at 8.
