South Central, BSE Pick Up Girls Basketball Wins

FARINA -- South Central High School trailed North Clay (Louisville) at halftime but mounted a comeback bid and pulled out a 53-43 win in girls basketball Thursday evening.
North Clay held a 21-19 halftime lead as Mikayla Stanfield scored seven in the opening quarter and 11 by halftime. Kelly Smith was on for the Cougars with nine by halftime.
Central's Abby Hahn put together a nine point third quarter while Alannah Sigrist scored seven as the Cougars pushed ahead 37-33 going into the final quarter. In the final period, Smith continued her hot scoring with 10 points and the Cougars had the win.
Smith finished with 19 points while Hahn scored 15. North Clay was led by Stanfield with 15 and Taylor Jones with 10.
"We had to battle the whole game to get the win," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "The game kept going back and forth all night. We struggled in different phases of our game tonight but made some plays in the fourth quarter when we had to. Serina Lee had a rebound and put back for two points that was big in that quarter. Abby Hahn and Keely Smith led us in the second half."
South Central is now 2-0. North Clay claimed the junior varsity game 30-26.

At Brownstown
Brownstown/St. Elmo literally leaped out to a 26-2 first quarter lead and the game was never in doubt as BSE tallied a 62-15 victory.
BSE held a 48-7 halftime lead. Brown tallied 14 points, eight coming in the opening quarter while Fitch scored 13, all in the first half.
Shelbyville was led by Goralski and Beyers with five each.
Brownstown/St. Elmo also won the junior varsity contest 31-5.

Dieterich traveled to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and dropped a 55-33 loss to the homestanders.
Christ Our Rock edged out to a 12-10 opening quarter lead and led 28-19 at halftime. CORL took a 27-14 second half lead.
Dieterich was led by Kelsey Webb with nine points and two steals. Kallee Heuerman had five rebounds. The Movin' Maronos dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Charleston flexed its muscles and pounded Altamont 70-24 in action Thursday evening.
The Trojans ran off to a 21-4 opening quarter lead and held a 52-12 first half score. Sherwood scored 20, Swango 15 and Pariah 10 for the winners.
