Altamont, T-town, South Central Open Girls Basketball Season With Wins

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School opened the 2015-16 girls basketball season with a 55-36 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday evening.

The Indians edged out to a 14-6 opening quarter lead as Leah Mayhaus connected for five points. Keidron Duckwitz then tallied seven of her total nine points in the second quarter run as the Indians pushed ahead 36-17 at halftime.

The Indians proved they have offensive power as nine players scored in the game led by Mayhaus with 13 points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had two players in double digits, Grace Schuler with 11 and Mackenzi Tabbert with 10.

At Farina

South Central opened its season by downing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 38-26. The Cougars edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead then jumped on the scoring train witrh a 17-3 tally for a 24-9 halftime lead.

"We played in spurts with this being our first game of the year," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "We did not play all that well in the first quarter. I think it was due to being hyped up about playing. In the second and third quarters we played very well, running our offense better and played defense with more intensity."

The Cougars' Abby Hahn finished with 11 points to lead the way. CHBC was led by Timber Gates and Felicia Johnson with six points each.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won the junior varsity contest 32-25.

Teutopolis pounded Sullivan 91-15. The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 29-3 opening quarter lead as Smith scored 11 points.

T-town went on for a 58-10 halftime lead. Five players hit double figures. Smith led the way with 19 points while Sandschafer had 15, Hartke 13, Repking 11 and Thompson 10.

Repking had five steals while Sandschafer had four. Thompson pulled down four rebounds.

Olney picked up a 56-22 win over North Clay (Louisville) in season opening action Monday.

Olney held a 40-12 halftime lead. Inyart tallied 12 for the winners while Eagleson had nine. Nohren led in rebounds with 11 and blocks with three.

North Clay was led by Jones with eight points.
