MOUNT VERNON -- Effingham Junior High School picked up a seventh-grade victory in the Summersville Shootout Saturday.
The Mustangs had a 24-18 halftime lead then had a big scoring third quarter 20-6 run for the 51-30 win over Summersville.
Tristin Duncan tallied 18 and Wolfe 13 for the winners. Duncan was named Most Valuable Player of the game. The Mustangs are now 3-1 on the season.
In the eighth-grade contest, Fairfield handed Effingham a 42-24 loss. The Mustangs were led by Zurliene with 14 points and Massie with 10. Pemberton had 12 rebounds. The Mustangs dropped to 0-4 while Fairfield moved to 5-0.
Effingham St. Anthony handed Germantown a 39-16 loss in seventh-grade competition. St. Anthony trailed 6-4 after the opening quarter then went on a tear with a 20-2 second period run and never looked back.
Walsh scored 19 for the Bullpups.

Teutopolis claimed two victories in the Summersville Shootout Saturday.
T-town won the seventh-grade game 48-26. T-town was led by M. Deters with 17 points.
In the eighth-grade contest, the Shoes defeated Carbondale 47-19. T-town held a 29-4 halftime lead. Hemmen scored 14, Ungrund 11 and B. Deters 10 for the winners.

At Strasburg
Greenville downed North Clay (Louisville) 63-40 for the championship of the Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday.
In opening games, North Clay defeated Stew-Stras/Windsor 40-14 to advance to the title contest. Zimdars tallied seven for thew inners. Kriby led SSW with 10.
In the second contest, Greenville won over Cumberland 56-27. Green led the winners with 17. Cumberland was led by Hemmen with 15.
The championship then went to Greenville. The winners had three players in double digits with Green at 18, Kinney at 16 and Jenkins at 12. North Clay was led by Jones with 14 and Bible with 11.
The third place game went to Cumberland who edged SSW 36-34 despite being held scoreless in the final quarter as SSW tallied 16. Ryder led the winners with 14. Kirby led SSW with 23.
