Effingham played host to Mount Vernon Zadok Casey in junior high boys basketball season openers Monday evening and split wins with the Mustangs Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, EJHS claimed a 54-20 win by jumping out to a 29-8 halftime lead. Wolfe scored 17 and Duncan 11 for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Mount Vernon picked up a 59-28 win. Mount Vernon held a 32-12 halftime lead and outscored the Mustangs 21-11 in the third period.

Effingham was led by Snow with six points.

At Neoga

Altamont claimed two victories over Neoga Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, Altamont picked up a 26-9 victory. Altamont held a 13-5 first half lead and led 21-5 going into the final quarter after holding Neoga scoreless.

Hunter Cripe tallied 10 for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont took a 38-32 victory. Donovan Delaney and Jared Kollmann scored 10 points each for the winners. Altamont held a 24-13 first half lead and led 32-23 going into the final quarter.

At Clay City

North Clay (Louisville) handed Clay City two losses. North Clay claimed the seventh-grade contest 32-9.

North Clay stepped out to a 16-4 first half lead. Holden Clifton scored eight to lead the winners.

In the eighth-grade game, North Clay won 56-28. North Clay led by 10 at halftime. Zimdars scored 12, Jones 11 and Luke Felener 10 for the winners.

At Teutopolis

Altamont Lutheran picked up a 49-40 win over Teutopolis in B game action Monday evening.

Altamont Lutheran held a 25-22 halftime lead then had a 16-9 final quarter run. Duckwitz tallied 27 for the winners while Jahraus scored 11.

T-town was led by Kremer with 11 and Probst with 10.

Jasper County handed Oblong two losses. Jasper County claimed the seventh-grade contest 39-25.

Evan Schafer tallied 15 for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County took a 23-4 halftime lead and went on for a 49-6 victory. Kyle Schafer scored 16 points and Jereld Echl 11 for the winners.
