Effingham Junior High School split victories with Mattoon in girls basketball action Tuesday.
The Mustangs won the seventh-grade encounter 19-17 to improve to 1-1. Rueter scored 12 points to lead the way.
In eighth-grade play, Mattoon claimed a 35-15 victory. Krouse led the Mustangs with seven as they dropped to 0-2.

At Vandalia
Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick and Vandalia picked up a victory each Tuesday evening.
BCCH won the seventh-grade contest 31-16. After failing to score in the opening quarter, BCCH came back to push ahead 5-4 at halftime then had a 26-12 second half run. Madison Cherry tallied 13 points for the winners.
In the eighth-grade contest, Vandalia claimed a 26-15 victory. Kern tallied 13 for the winners. Jaelyn Robertson had seven points for BCCH.
