Casey-Westfield Season Comes To A Close

CARBONDALE -- The Cinderella season for the Casey-Westfield High School boys basketball team came to an end Tuesday evening at the Class 1A Carbondale Super-Sectional.

Mounds Meridian claimed a 51-40 victory over the Warriors. Corey Carver led Casey-Westfield with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

In other super-sectional action, Forreston downed Chicago St. Francis de Sales 67-53 in the DeKalb Super-Sectional, Brimfield won over Okawville 53-38 at Jacksonville and Colfax Ridgeview defeated Flanagan-Cornell 57-38 at Normal.

The four squads advance to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday and Saturday at Peoria's Carver Arena.

In Class 2A, Breese Mater Dei won the Carbondale Super-Sectional with a 64-38 win over Carterville. Taylor Ridge Rockridge went overtime to beat Elgin St. Edward at DeKalb, Chicago Uplift downed Chicago Hales Franciscan 67-61 at Joliet Central and Decatur St. Teresa beat Bloomington Central Catholic 56-35 at Springfield.

Those four advance to the Class 2A State Tournament Friday and Saturday at Carver Arena in Peoria.

In the Class 3A Carbondale Sectional, Carbondale defeated Mount Vernon 71-53 to advance to the title contest Friday evening.

In Class 4A, Alton defeated Collinsville 67-58 at the Pekin Sectional and advances to the championship game Friday.
