Effingham High School captured two victories in the Apollo Conference Boys Freshman Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Hearts defeated Salem 57-48. Salem took an 11-9 opening quarter lead but the Hearts came back with a 21-12 second period run and never looked back. Mason Hull tallied 23 points for the Hearts while Ryan Sandifer scored 19.
In the second game, Effingham downed Charleston 55-49. The Trojans held a 20-19 halftime lead before Effingham came back with a 21-13 third quarter run and held off the Trojans in the final period.
Sandifer led the way with 17 points while Logan Smith added 12 and Hull 10. The Hearts will now play for the conference tournament championship Saturday.
